Scotsman Harry Tincknell completed a superb lights-to-flag drive to claim his third win of the season in the second Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series race at Snetterton today (Sunday).
Unlike Saturday's race, bright sunshine and hot weather conditions greeted the drivers and spectators for the start of race two at Snetterton. Starting from pole in the reversed grid race, Tincknell made the most of the advantage and came home to take the flag with an untroubled drive, finishing ahead of Jazeman Jaafar and Nick McBride.
Tincknell, who profited from the reverse grid draw, made a good start from pole position and he headed the 16 car field into Riches, with plenty of squabbling for positions behind. Richard Goddard managed to hold on to second spot with Jaafar in third and Adderly Fong fourth. Snetterton race one winner Jack Harvey was the man to watch as he gained five places on the opening lap to move into ninth place.
While Tincknell surged into a healthy lead, Jaafar snatched second spot from Goddard and Harvey continued his progress through the field, passing Felix Seralles and Alex Lynn. There was disappointment for Hannes Van Asseldonk as he was forced into the pit lane with a problem with the front left. A drive through penalty for Goddard, who was deemed out of position at the start, helped lift Harvey and the rest of the field up a position.
At the front Tincknell had the race under control maintaining a three second lead from Jaafar but third place changed hands after Fong ran wide on lap 10. His mistake saw him drop to eighth allowing McBride into third and Harvey into fourth, extending his impressive drive from 12th on the grid.
In the end Tincknell held his nerve to take the chequered flag from Jaafar. McBride claimed the final spot on the podium with the result being his first F3 podium. Fong took the honours in the National Class from Goddard and Duvashen Padayachee.
The final Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series Race at Snetterton will begin at 15:05pm.
