Record crowd attends sun-soaked MCE BSB event at Brands Hatch

Wednesday, July 25 2012

A record crowd of 55,000 fans were entertained at Brands Hatch during the latest round of the MCE British Superbike Championship last weekend - the best attendance for any event at the Kent circuit since 2008.

With summer finally arriving and temperatures soaring above 70 degrees, fans lined the 2.3-mile circuit in their droves to watch some of the world's best Superbike riders competing on the famed Grand Prix circuit. Sittingbourne's Shane 'Shakey' Byrne scored an outstanding double win whilst defending champion Tommy Hill from Lingfield claimed a pair of podium finishes to preserve his lead in the overall standings.

MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer, owner of Brands Hatch, said: ""To have such a huge crowd at Brands last weekend, our biggest for any event since 2008, is great testament to the appeal of BSB. The combination of new rules, a superb line up of riders and, of course, the sunshine helped deliver a magnificent spectacle, and I was delighted to see Shane Byrne celebrate his first double win of the season. It's been an incredible season so far and it's impossible to predict who will be champion when we have the title-deciding round on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in October."

The MCE British Superbike Championship returns to Brands Hatch in October (12/13/14) for the title-deciding season finale on the Grand Prix circuit.
