Leading junior single seater outfit Mark Godwin Racing (MGR)
have become the latest team to commit to the BRDC Formula 4
Championship by purchasing the 10th and 11th cars. This brings the
total confirmed orders to 14 less than two weeks since applications
opened, with details of the remaining cars to be announced
shortly.
Founded in 2010, MGR is owned and managed by Mark Godwin who has
been involved in motorsport for almost 20 years, beginning with
Aztek Race Engineering in 1993. Ironically, Aztek's first ever
driver was Alex Deighton, managing director of new F4 Privateer Cup
sponsor Yoozoom, who brought the teams' first ever victory. During
Mark's career so far, he has achieved an impressive tally of race
wins and ten championship titles across a range of single seater
categories, including engineering Duncan Tappy and Dean Smith to a
championship 1-2 in Formula Renault UK in 2007.
Mark established MGR two years ago after a successful spell as a
race engineer and team manager at Fortec Motorsport. Having already
achieved considerable success in Formula Renault BARC and
Intersteps this year, the team is now aiming to replicate that in
Formula 4, as Team Principal Mark Godwin explains: "We're planning
on running at least two F4 cars next year and have already received
a lot of interest from drivers straight out of karting, looking to
take that next step on the ladder. This year has been very
successful for us, having four drivers in the top eight in Formula
Renault BARC and narrowly missing out on winning the Intersteps
championship at the first attempt with Matt Mason, so hopefully we
can continue this success into F4 in 2013."
Jonathan Palmer, F4 Series Director, said: "MGR has only existed
for two seasons but the formidable squad run by Mark Godwin has
already made a big impact in junior single seaters and I'm sure
they will do the same in F4 by being a front running team from the
off."
